Brahmin-Dalit hold meet to promote harmony in Jaipur

In a bid to promote Brahmin-Dalit harmony a meet was held in Sanganer area of Jaipur. Organised under the banner of Mahatma Gandhi Samajik Samrasta Mission, several social organisations took part in the event aimed at promoting harmony.  People belonging to the two communities sat together to share a meal and expressed willingness for peaceful coexistence.

People belonging to both communities—Brahmins and Dalits—greeted each other by showering rose petals. They hugged each other and ate together to give a strong message against untouchability and in support of social harmony. A vehicular rally was also taken out by the Dalits and Brahmins.

Speaking on the occasion president of the Brahmin Mahasabha Suresh Mishra accused the BJP of dividing the country on caste lines by creating differences. This he said, has created a rift in the society. He hoped that the meet would serve to bridge differences and untouchability.

Secretary General of Ambedkar Memorial Welfare Society Anil Gothwal said that Lord Parashuram, Manu and Ambedkar have all given the message of peaceful coexistence among various castes. He said that the Indian democracy has always promoted peace and harmony.

Patron of the Brahmin Mahasabha HC Ganesha stressed that the only way for ensuring a peaceful society was to ensure harmony between Brahmin and Dalits.

Conference organisers Kamal Valmiki and Mukesh Sharma said that the last few months have seen rise in animosity among the two castes and this would prove detrimental to the society in the long run. They said the event had been organised to remind the society about the mutual respect and brotherhood which is the need of the hour. The meeting comes at a time when both Dalits and upper castes are upset with BJP over the issue of reservation.
