Kurnool, Feb 02 A 12-year-old Dalit girl was set ablaze by a Muslim named Mohiuddin Saheb, 35, in Badinehallu village of Kowthalam mandal in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, reports The Hindu.
The girl, whose condition is very critical, was first admitted to the Adoni general hospital and then shifted to the Kurnool government public hospital. The hospital officials have said that she has suffered third-degree burns on 65 to 70 per cent of her body.
The accused, Mohiuddin Saheb, is on the run. He had been harassing the victim for several months. On the girl complaining to her parents about the harassment, her parents had warned Mohiuddin to stay away from her. Mohiuddin retaliated by pouring petrol on the girl and setting her on fire on Saturday.
M Murali, the Circle Inspector of Adoni, stated that Mohiuddin was a married man with four children. Murali continued by saying that Kowthalam Police Station has registered an FIR against the accused under Section 307 (attempted murder), Nirbhaya Act and SC-ST Atrocities Act.
